This card, from the original Zendikar MTG set of 2009, is popular for its ability to gain quest counters and unlock a potent ability that allows players to gain life and deal damage when cards are placed in an opponent’s graveyard. It is particularly effective in MTG Mill or Discard decks and works well in the Mothman deck from the new MTG Fallout Universes Beyond set.
The Mothman deck has caused a price spike in various MTG cards, including Bloodchief Ascension. The Mothman is a popular commander choice from the Fallout set, with 2,594 decks logged so far. The unique mechanics of the Mothman have made previously underloved cards more desirable and expensive. While it may be tempting to invest in expensive cards for your Mothman deck, it is not necessary to have fun in EDH. Building a budget Commander deck can still provide great plays and enjoyment without breaking the bank.
