The MTG card Mirrex, which was previously a $1 bulk rare, has seen a major price increase of 117% in the past two weeks. The card, which can produce a 1/1 Phyrexian Mite token with Toxic 1 but cannot block, has spiked from $4.60 to $10 as of January 8. It has found a place in Standard decks such as Azorius Soldiers and Dimir Midrange, but its recent spike in price is due to its use in the new Bant Poison deck archetype. This deck uses aggressive Toxic creatures to start a poison death clock and can close out the game with a combo of March of Swirling Mist and Venerated Rot-Priest. Another new deck, Azorius Artifacts, also features Mirrex and may contribute to its staying power. The Standard meta for Magic: The Gathering seems to be malleable despite the lack of a fresh MTG set, with new decks and archetypes emerging. It remains to be seen if Mirrex will continue to rise in price or if it is already on its way down.
