On October 31, several new cards were revealed for the MTG Lost Caverns of Ixalan set during the Halloween Weekly MTG stream. One notable card is Xavier Sal, Infested Captain, a Human Fungus Pirate with unique abilities that make him a strong MTG Commander. He can remove a counter from a permanent to Populate, creating a copy of a creature token under your control. Additionally, he can sacrifice a creature to Proliferate, adding a counter to any permanent that already has one. These abilities work well together, fueling each other and potentially leading to powerful combos. Another interesting card is Tetzin, Gnome Champion, who has a niche theme of double-sided artifacts. To transform Tetzin into the Golden-Gear Colossus, players must pay four mana and exile six artifacts. Once transformed, the creature can interact with double-sided artifacts. This card seems designed to pair with Transformers cards or potentially double-faced creatures turned into artifacts with Liquimetal Torque. Lastly, Contested Game Ball creates a mini-game within the game itself. Players can tap the card to draw cards, but if they are hit by another player, that player can steal the card and use it themselves. After five cards have been drawn, the match is over, and the “winner” receives a treasure token. This card references the ancient ball game played throughout Mesoamerica. Overall, these new cards add interesting mechanics and possibilities to the MTG Lost Caverns of Ixalan set.
