Wizards of the Coast has announced a series of bans in the Modern, Pioneer, and Pauper formats for MTG. Fury and Up the Beanstalk are banned in Modern, while Karn the Great Creator and Geological Appraiser are banned in Pioneer. Pauper players are losing access to Monastery Swiftspear. Smuggler’s Copter is being removed from the banlist, as it is no longer considered overpowered. Fury was banned due to its unfair ability to be easily cheated into play, while Up The Beanstalk was deemed too efficient of a card-draw option. Karn, The Great Creator was banned for its place in Mono Green Nykthos decks, and Geological Appraiser was banned for creating a backbreaking combo. Monastery Swiftspear was banned in Pauper due to its impact on sideboarding choices. Wizards is happy with the state of Standard and the variety of strategies found among the best MTG Arena decks. The banlist update will shake up the formats and provide a new balance for players.
