Magic: The Gathering (MTG) is collaborating with the Fallout video game franchise to release four preconstructed Commander decks. Unlike previous crossovers, this collaboration will not be a standalone set, but rather a set of preconstructed decks suitable for MTG’s multiplayer format. Each deck will feature Fallout-themed reprints of older cards as well as new designs inspired by the Fallout universe. The Fallout video game series, published by Bethesda Softworks, is set in a post-nuclear fallout version of the US and features mutated creatures and remnants of humanity. The Commander decks will capture different themes and factions from the Fallout games. The decks include Scrappy Survivors, Mutant Menace, Hail, Caesar, and Science!. Each deck will have a face commander and unique mechanics. The mechanics introduced in this collaboration include Junk Tokens, which allow players to exile and play cards from the top of their library, and Radiation Counters, which gradually strip players of resources and health. The collaboration will also feature the Squad mechanic from the Warhammer: 40,000 Commander decks, as well as other mechanics like Storm, Proliferate, and Split Second. The full-art basic lands accompanying the decks will showcase the wasteland’s ruined beauty, and collector boosters will include cards with Pip-Boy showcase frames and borderless Vault Boy versions of artifact cards. The collaboration is set to launch globally on March 8th, 2024.
