The List in Magic: The Gathering (MTG) is a curated selection of reprinted cards from the game’s history that can appear in booster packs. It was introduced in 2020 and has gone through several changes since then. The List was initially included in Set Boosters and contained 300 cards of various rarities. It was later used to house mechanically unique cards printed for Secret Lairs. The number of cards in The List varied between sets.
In February 2024, a new version of The List will be introduced alongside the Murders at Karlov Manor set. The new List will contain 40 reprinted cards, with 30 being commons or uncommons and the rest being rare or mythic rare. All cards in The List will have new art treatments. The List will have a 12.5% chance of appearing in the seventh common slot of Play Boosters, which will replace the current booster packs on MTG Arena.
Wizards of the Coast, the publisher of MTG, has also introduced a new initiative called Special Guests. These are specially selected reprints that thematically fit the current set and will have new art that matches the set’s style. Ten Special Guests will rotate through The List, bringing the total number of possibilities to 50 reprinted cards.
On MTG Arena, Play Boosters will be used in all limited formations but will have some card swaps on The List to better fit the digital format. The price of limited events on MTG Arena will not increase, unlike physical draft, sealed, and prerelease events.
More information about the upcoming version of The List and its contents will be provided closer to the preview season of Murders at Karlov Manor in 2024.
