Magic: The Gathering is releasing a crossover set with the popular television series Doctor Who. The set, called Magic: The Gathering – Universes Beyond Doctor Who, will feature four Commander decks based on different eras of the show. Each deck will contain legendary cards based on specific iterations of the Doctor, which players can choose as their commander.
The Blast from the Past deck focuses on the first eight Doctors, allowing players to find the TARDIS card and cast spells for free from the deck. The Second Doctor removes the hand size limit for all players, while the Third Doctor gains a +1/+1 buff for every non-creature token the player controls. The Fourth Doctor lets players look at the top card of their library and play historic lands or spells. The Fifth Doctor allows players to put a +1/+1 counter on characters that didn’t attack or enter the battlefield. The Sixth Doctor lets players copy historic spells they cast, and the Seventh Doctor has a complex ability involving guessing the mana value of a card. The Eighth Doctor forces players to mill cards and allows them to play historic cards from their graveyard.
The Timey-Wimey deck features the Ninth, Tenth, and Eleventh Doctors. The Ninth Doctor has the Haste ability and gives players an extra upkeep phase. The Tenth Doctor allows players to exile nonland cards and time travel. The Eleventh Doctor allows players to exile cards and prevent creatures from blocking.
The Paradox Power deck focuses on the Twelfth Doctor and the upcoming Fourteenth and Fifteenth Doctors. The Twelfth Doctor grants the Demonstrate ability to spells cast from outside the player’s hand. The Thirteenth Doctor has the Paradox ability, which puts +1/+1 counters on creatures whenever a spell is cast from outside the hand.
The Commander Decks will be available from October 13th.
