Hasbro, the publisher of Dungeons and Dragons, has announced a second wave of layoffs in a public 8-K form from December 11, following plans to cut around 800 staff in January. The company has revealed a further 1,100 redundancies just before Christmas, despite strong revenue from D&D, Magic: The Gathering, and Baldur’s Gate 3. Total revenue was down 10% for the quarter, and Hasbro shares have declined around 21% in the past six months. CEO Chris Cocks stated that the layoffs were prompted by a “challenging holiday period environment” and that they are necessary to keep Hasbro healthy. The company expects a year of change in 2023, including significant updates to the leadership team, structure, and scope of operations. Hasbro also intends to cut costs by relying on a third-party outsourcing provider for certain internal functions and relocating from its Rhode Island office. It is unclear how this announcement will affect Wizards of the Coast. For more recent news from Wizards of the Coast, the newly-announced DnD release schedule and MTG release schedule for 2024 are available.
