Disney Lorcana, a trading card game launched by Disney in September, has faced challenges in maintaining its relevance due to product availability issues and a lack of organized events for fans. However, publisher Ravensburger has announced solutions to address these issues. Reprints of The First Chapter, a popular set in the game, will be available in hobby stores in North America by mid-November, followed by availability in other regions. Additionally, competitive and fan events will be held starting in Q2 2024, providing opportunities for both collectors and players to engage with the game and share their love for Disney Lorcana.
Ravensburger has also updated the official Disney Lorcana tournament rules, outlining how to run sanctioned events for casual play, limited drafts, sealed drafts, and constructed competition. Promotional exclusives will be offered at competitive events, ensuring that players who want to bring some power to their decks are not left out. More details on how Ravensburger will support competitive play will be announced in January 2024.
For those who have obtained convention exclusive cards in the past, there will be a slight change in their appearance. Instead of featuring the event logo, these cards will now have a promo icon in the rarity slot to indicate their origin. Three new cards, including Pinocchio, Talkative Puppet, Rapunzel, Gifted Artist, and the song Four Dozen Eggs, will be handed out at conventions in 2024.
The second set of Disney Lorcana, Rise of the Floodborn, will be released on December 1st and will introduce a new keyword called Resist. The game aims to provide strategic support and build a strong foundation before introducing new elements to the deckbuilding meta.
Overall, these updates and events aim to address the challenges faced by Disney Lorcana and ensure its continued success in the trading card game market.
