Magic: The Gathering (MTG) players were surprised to receive an early First Look at the new MTG Fallout Universes Beyond crossover. The new cards shown off during the First Look are exciting and create connections between Magic and the world of Fallout. The First Look introduced a unique new mechanic called MTG Rad Counters, which represent levels of Radiation. Rad Counters can be beneficial in small doses but detrimental when accumulated in large amounts. The mechanic can be used as an engine for value or as a win condition by overwhelming opponents with Rad Counters. Synergies with Rad Counters can be created using the Proliferate mechanic. The Rad Counter mechanic is a unique addition to MTG and may inspire similar mechanics in the future.
