The upcoming MTG Doctor Who Universes Beyond crossover set will introduce a new mechanic called Doctor’s Companion, which is a Partner mechanic that allows for the pairing of the Doctor and their Companion in a game of Commander. This mechanic will only appear on the Companion characters, who are monocolored Legendary Creatures. The Doctor’s Companion mechanic will allow players to create their own episode and partner different Doctors with different Companions. The best Doctor’s Companion is yet to be confirmed, but there are some generic designs that should partner well with a range of Doctors. The set is also expected to include a new Secret Lair featuring the Fourteenth Doctor and their associated Doctor’s Companion, Rose Noble. The new cards from the Secret Lair have not all been revealed yet, but the ones that have been showcased are expected to be powerful and work well together. The Doctor’s Companion mechanic is expected to add a new layer of strategy and excitement to the game of Magic: The Gathering.
