Casual Commander in Magic: The Gathering allows for the use of politics, which is not present in two-player games. With four players, temporary alliances can be formed to keep one player from getting too far ahead. Fast mana is common in Commander, so it’s important to keep players in check. This allows for the use of MTG cards that may be risky in single player games, but become powerful in a political setting. Scheming Symmetry, Wishclaw Talisman, and Demonstrate are some of the most powerful political Commander cards that perform better than their price tag. Scheming Symmetry can essentially become two Vampiric Tutors for the price of one, while Wishclaw Talisman offers three opportunities for players to tutor cards directly to their hand. Demonstrate allows players to get an extra copy of a spell in exchange for allowing another player to get a free copy. The use of politics in Commander can make the game more fun and allows for cards that would otherwise not see play to make a big impact.
