Magic: The Gathering fans can breathe a sigh of relief as it seems unlikely that the ‘Epilogue’ release format, introduced in the March of the Machine: The Aftermath set, will be making a return. Aftermath was a smaller set comprising 50 new cards and served as a narrative ‘epilogue’ to the previous set, March of the Machine. While the card selection was praised, the condensed booster offering and pricing received criticism from fans. Each Epilogue Booster contained only five cards but was priced the same as a standard Draft Booster, making it three times more expensive to play in a Draft game. Magic: The Gathering lead designer Mark Rosewater recently commented that another Epilogue set is “pretty unlikely.” However, this does not mean that the micro-set format will not return in some form in the future. Fans have expressed their disappointment with the pricing of the Epilogue Boosters, stating that it was too high for the number of cards included. Some fans hope that future releases will have a better balance between pricing and card selection, while others would like to see a different take on the concept rather than scrapping it altogether.
