Star Wars: Unlimited, a trading card game set to release in March 2024, may feature characters from Star Wars video games, comics, novels, and more, according to the game’s publisher, Fantasy Flight Games. The game draws inspiration from popular card game Magic: The Gathering’s Commander format and the defunct dice game Star Wars: Destiny. Players will use their deck of characters and powers, led by iconic leaders like Luke Skywalker, Leia Organa, or Darth Vader, to destroy their opponents’ bases. The first set, Spark of Rebellion, will focus on the Galactic Civil War period seen in the original trilogy, Rebels, and Rogue One. Future sets, such as Shadows of the Galaxy and Twilight of the Republic, will delve deeper into Star Wars lore. Fantasy Flight Games is already working on the game’s seventh set, with sets eight and nine in the concepting phase, ensuring the game’s development through at least 2027.
Unlimited will draw from the “modern Star Wars” canon, including elements from movies, TV shows, video games, novels, and comic books. The game’s art style is comic book-inspired, providing a way to unify the various visions of Star Wars. Fantasy Flight Games has the flexibility to propose its own takes on the series to Lucasfilm, allowing for the incorporation of ideas from different series in line with the TCG’s style.
