Our Brilliant Ruin, a new RPG by Studio Hermitage, combines the social drama of Downton Abbey with the bleak apocalypse of Arkham Horror. Set in the fictional world of Dramark, players must navigate ballroom dances, secretive romances, and monstrous creatures as the world crumbles around them. The setting is inspired by Edwardian aesthetics and existential horror, with the world doomed to be consumed by The Ruin, an unnatural law.
Players can align with one of three factions in Dramark society – aristocrats, truefolk, or unbonded activists – each with their own goals and motivations. The game features an original gameplay system where players assemble dice pools based on their character’s traits and skills to resolve tests. Success depends on rolling more ‘brills’ than ‘glooms’, with the option to use ‘passion’ to increase chances of success.
The game’s creators, including writers with experience in Vampire: The Masquerade and Assassin’s Creed, have ambitious plans for the world of Dramark beyond the RPG, including comic books, audio dramas, and video games. The Kickstarter campaign for Our Brilliant Ruin is live now, with additional content planned for the future.
