The Murders at Karlov Manor Prerelease events were well-received, with players enjoying the unique mechanics of the set. However, there was a significant issue with the lack of tokens provided in the Prerelease kits. The set includes a variety of tokens that are essential for gameplay, but players found that they did not receive enough tokens in their kits. This led to problems such as misplays and difficulty representing the board state.
The mechanics of the set, such as Investigate and Disguise, create a need for specific tokens that were not adequately provided. Players also pointed out the need for overlay cards to indicate certain game mechanics, such as Ward. The lack of these tokens and cards led to confusion and frustration among players, especially newer ones.
Players suggested that future Prerelease kits should include a wider variety of tokens to ensure that players have what they need for gameplay. Some also proposed the idea of cards that provide access to multiple different tokens at once, similar to punch cards used in previous sets. MTG head designer Mark Rosewater acknowledged the feedback and indicated that adjustments may be made in the future to address these issues.
