The Bandai Card Games Fest, a flagship tournament for One Piece Card Game players, took place at the Los Angeles Convention Center over the weekend. The event featured side events, sealed product, and the US finals, but was plagued with problems. Originally an invitational, the tournament was changed to an open event, resulting in over 100 players vying for Top 64 on tiebreakers. The tournament, which was scheduled for 11 rounds of Swiss, ended up taking 14 hours due to matchmaking delays and discrepancies in the event app and website. Additionally, there were issues with food and drink availability, side events filling up quickly, and long lines at the booster pack purchase counter. The event also exceeded the venue’s 9pm curfew, resulting in some players being eliminated from contention without being informed. Many players also did not receive the exclusive promotional card promised on entry. Bandai has not publicly commented on the reported issues. Despite the problems, the event still attracted a large number of attendees and players.
