The end of the year has not been kind to some of the largest tabletop companies, with Hasbro laying off 1,100 workers, affecting notable names on Dungeons & Dragons and Magic: The Gathering. However, Games Workshop, the makers of Warhammer 40,000 and Age of Sigmar, reported that sales were in line with expectations and distributed a £2,500 cash bonus as part of its profit share scheme, totaling £7.5 million. The company estimates core revenue of £235 million and licensing revenue of £12 million over the last six months, with a profit before tax of £94 million. This is a 66% increase from the previous year. The company is planning a bold 2024 release calendar, including the long-awaited reboot of Warhammer: The Old World. Despite some problems, the latest iteration of Warhammer 40,000 has been well-received. Games Workshop will publish a full half-yearly report on January 9th, 2024. While comparisons to Hasbro’s layoff may be made, it is important to remember that brands are not your friend, and it is positive that workers are sharing in the company’s success.
