Today, multiple cards were banned across various Constructed formats. In Modern, Fury and Up the Beanstalk were banned, potentially leading to a rise in small Creature decks. In Pioneer, Geological Appraiser and Karn, the Great Creator were banned, with Smuggler’s Copter being unbanned, potentially leading to more aggressive decks. The bans were not surprising for players who listened to the WeeklyMTG ban discussion last Tuesday, where hints were given about what may or may not get banned. Pauper bans are decided by the Pauper Format Panel, created by Principal MTG designer Gavin Verhey in 2022. Monastery Swiftspear was banned in Pauper due to its impact on the speed and polarization of the format, particularly in mono-red aggro decks. Other cards were considered for bans, but ultimately only Monastery Swiftspear was banned. Affinity and Tolarian Terror decks were also considered for bans, but no action was taken. No cards were unbanned, but the possibility of unbanning Prophetic Prism in the future was mentioned. The format will be monitored to see how it unfolds in the coming weeks.
