Cody Pondsmith, the creator of The Witcher tabletop RPG and co-designer of Cyberpunk Red, is working on a new roleplaying game called Shadow Scar. This game will feature an original system and setting, and will be the first wholly original tabletop RPG from Pondsmith. Unlike The Witcher and Cyberpunk, Shadow Scar will use a new system called the Mosaic system, which utilizes a dice pool system with only six-sided dice. The game is intended to be lighter and easier to pick up and play. The game’s world, Nakatsukuni, is heavily rooted in 17th-century Japan and will feature monsters drawn from Japanese folklore. The game will also detail four worlds in the multiverse of the Mosaic, including Fifth Street, Steel Court, and Refuge. The setting of Refuge is influenced by anime such as Cowboy Bebop, Naruto, Demon Slayer, and Samurai Champloo. Pondsmith is working with cultural consultants to ensure the game’s deep influences from Japanese folklore, culture, and mythology are accurately represented. Shadow Scar is a passion project for Pondsmith and has been in development for the majority of his life.
