The price of the Magic: The Gathering (MTG) dinosaur card Tyrant Trapjaw has been steadily increasing in anticipation of the upcoming Ixalan release. At the end of October, the card was priced at $10 on MTGGoldfish, but it has now risen to $15.57, representing a 50% increase. This trend is not unique to Tyrant Trapjaw, as other dinosaur cards that are not featured in MTG Lost Caverns of Ixalan are also experiencing a surge in price as fans seek to add them to their dinosaur decks.
Tyrant Trapjaw’s price began to rise in September, starting at $6, but it experienced a significant spike from October 31 onwards, increasing by five or six dollars in just a few days. This could be attributed to the growing hype surrounding the release of Ixalan, or it may be due to buyers waiting to see if the card would be reprinted. With the confirmation that Trapjaw Tyrant is not included in Lost Caverns, it is understandable that its price has shot up.
Comparatively, another popular dinosaur card, Gishath, Sun’s Avatar, saw its price increase from $30 to $50 in the weeks leading up to Ixalan. However, when a reprint of the card was revealed on October 24 during the Lost Caverns of Ixalan debut stream, its price plummeted.
Other dinosaur cards that did not receive a reprint in Lost Caverns of Ixalan, such as Polyraptor and Silverclad Ferocidons, have also seen an increase in price recently. It is expected that dinosaur card prices will continue to rise as players acquire Lost Caverns of Ixalan and search for suitable additions to their MTG Commander decks.
